A reinforced handle
Stiffened vertebrae near the end of the tail supported a large bony club.
Small teeth, big animal
Its relatively small leaf-shaped teeth fit a plant-eating diet; it did not have a predator's cutting dentition.
Low and wide
A broad body and short legs produced a low-slung build suited to feeding close to the ground.
Complicated airways
The nasal region had a complex internal structure. Airflow and heat exchange have been investigated in ankylosaur relatives.
A final-Cretaceous animal
It lived alongside Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus near the end of the age of non-avian dinosaurs.
A little room for discovery.
No complete Ankylosaurus skeleton has been found. The exact arrangement of all its body armor remains uncertain.
